T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N920T) has gotten its official Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update. The first  MM aboard is the “N920TUVU2DPD1″ build. This update has been released via Over-The-Air (OTA) in between April to June 2016. However, if your device have been modified you might have missed this update. How to Manually Restore a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 5 SM-N920T to Official Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow thru Odin

When do we use the stock firmware?

When it happens that you try to perform a software update then gets an error message that says The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch for PC or visit a customer service center.

That simply means that the device could not get the software update anymore. So the best shot here is you need to remove the root image that has been installed in the device by flashing back the stock firmware itself.


Before you proceed prepare these necessary things as follows so you’ll not screwed-up your phone:

• Create a backup all your personal data, like Contacts, Messages, Applications, Pictures, and Videos, so that you will not lose it just in case something might go wrong after the update.

• Make sure that your Galaxy Note 5 SM-N920T battery is fully charged to ensure stability and to get rid pf power failure issues while updating.

• Prepare a PC computer as this process will not work on Mac.

• Enable USB debugging mode if you are having issues connecting your device to the computer try to enable this option. This specified stock firmware or so-called stock ROM is only compatible for Samsung Galaxy Note 5 SM-N920T (T-Mobile) specific model only. Do not ever try to use this firmware on other Samsung Galaxy Note 5 variants, including other brands and model numbers.

Extract/Unzip the download stock firmware

Extract the downloaded N920PVPU2BPC3 firmware or stock ROM. Use WinZip, 7zip, Winrar or any decompressing program you have had in your computer.

Run and Configure Odin Flasher

Run Odin3_v3.07 flasher program. In Odin window DO NOT tick the option box that says ‘Re-Partition’. Leave ‘Auto Reboot’ and ‘F.Reset Time’ check-marked by default.

3) Just click on the AP button then select and load the N920TUVU2DPD1 stock firmware.

Once loaded you need to wait for a while as it reads out the MD5 checksum for compatibility.

Reboot the Galaxy Note 5 in Download Mode

Reboot the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 SM-N920T into Download Mode: Turn it Off first. Now Press and hold the Volume Down, HOME and Power ON button at the same time). You will then presented into a “Warning Message” screen, just press the Volume Up to continue. Once the Android robot and a “Downloading” message appears.

Connect the Note 5 into a computer

Connect the Galaxy Note 5 to the computer using the supplied USB data cable. In Odin window, the ID: COM box will turn to a bluish color when the phone is properly connected and an indication that its recognized with Odin. It also states as “Phone Added! in the log-cat.

Begin Flashing

When all is set and ready to begin flashing; Tick the ‘START’ button located at the lower part of Odin.

Avoid Interrupting the process

DO NOT disconnect nor do anything when the phone is already in download mode. You’ll messed up the phone if you accidentally interfere the installation. Wait until a word “PASS” appears on the left side of the Odin screen, it is an indication that the installation successfully completes. (If you get failed errors, check the USB connection condition, repeat the whole process)

Troubleshooting when firmware flashing failed

Does a factory reset after flashing is necessary when the device previously runs on any modified ROM and unofficial firmware images? This process is optional, but this method can get rid of the unwanted bootloop and lag issues after flashing. To do this;

Press and hold Volume Up+ Home+Power button, then select the Wipe Data/Factory Reset, to gain a fresh firmware installed.

If you use this for unrooting and restoring back from custom ROM but cannot get through the during the flashing and you get Odin failed error. You may just repeat the process but make sure to check everything from USB data cable, computer’s USB serial port, USB driver try the other Odin version. You may also sort out what root kernel and custom ROM and any modified system images you have previously used before as it also causes a flashing failure.
