Samsung Galaxy Note (SGH-I717/SGH-I717M) U.S and Canada Firmware Download

The Samsung Galaxy Note I717 released exclusively in the United States and Canada, hitting the U.S. shores in January 2012 under AT&T carrier, in Canada by Bell, Telus and Rogers. This Android device shipped in Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread and can be upgradable to Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich sooner. Although the SGH-I717 looks similarly from the global version GT-N7000, but  there’s a big differences between the two and uses a different firmware builds.

AT&T,ROGERS,BELL and Telus Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-I717/R Official Firmware Updates releases list

Here’s a brief details of differences between the U.S and Canada SGH-I717 and Global GT-N7000 Galaxy Note. The U.S. version SGH-I717 is powered by Snapdragon S3 chipset (Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon, CPU Dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion and Adreno 220 GPU) while the GT-N7000 used the Exynos Chipset (Dual-core 1.4 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 Processor and Mali-400MP GPU). The Exynos chipset of the global version is significantly faster than the US and Canada I717. The only advantage of the I717 is the LTE connectivity packing, unlikely different from the international version of the Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 which is only limited to countries specific network coverage. The SGH-I7i7 supports 4G Network (LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 1700 / 2100) while the GT-N7000 supports (LTE 700 – country specific). One more thing, the SGH-I717 have No built in FM radio,  while the global version has it.

Note: The AT&T U.S. version is Galaxy Note  SGH-I717 while the Bell, Telus and Rogers are Galaxy Note SGH-I717M,  SGH-I717D, and SGH-I717R.”

Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-I717, SGH-I717M, SGH-I717D, SGH-I717R Official (Kies and OTA) Firmware Updates compiled list.

I also included the original stock ROM in-case for those who used unofficial ROM and root kernel, this may useful for returning back the device to its official stock firmware on each specific carrier provider.

  1. Thanks alot guys. I downloaded the update and since this is all new to me I have enjoyed the upgrade from gingerbread. I haven’t figured out everything that has changed, but so far so good. The only problem I see is that my Play Store stops working from time to time. I do have one question, I noticed that the premium suite for the s-pen on SGH I717 did not come with the update, when will that come and will I be able to use AT&T update for ICS when it is released OTA in order to get the premium suite if that is the only way I will be able to get it? Thanks again.

  2. I’ve tried the telus ics Firmware but all i get in odin is “parameter is incorrent” PLEASE HELP, Ill buy you a beer!

    1. Tell us your device current status, does it rooted, runs with custom rom etc..
but when I click on start it says the parameter is incorrect.

      Try this.
Extract or unzip it, you will get .tar.md5
Start ODIN3-> Boot the device in Download mode -> Connected through PC -> ODIN should detect the Phone -> select md5 File in PDA button -> Now flash it.

      Now if it doesn’t work
Rename the firmware file to .tar (i.e. Remove ‘.md5‘ on the ‘tar.md5‘ extensions.)
      Then flash it again.

  3. hi , i have a rooted note with custom rom , i tried to flash the stock rom for rogers note 1 , but i stayed stuck on the samsung word so the my note is not booting any help plz ?

    1. From Custom ROM make sure to perform Wipe Data/Dalvik cache from custom recovery options. Some custom ROM may not directly overwritten when flashing back the original or stock ROM. Clearing the memory cache first will resolve this issue.

  4. Upgraded from a i717M (Bell) to a Rogers firmware and now the phone is asking me for network lock control key. What do I put in???

  5. thanks a lot for this tutorial and the download links, its a shame that at&t ICS, odin and drivers links are down, could you please reupload’em thanks.

  6. please restore Canada (Bell) Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-I717M rom 4.0.4 please please please 😀 restore the link 😀

  7. Please help, I have a I717D which is the telus variant. I followed instructions from this link
to root my phone, but after the rooting process through Odin, it gets stuck in a bootcycle (screen goes black after the telus screen but in odin still shows as connected) then after about a minute resets again. Already tried resetting/wiping data from recovery mode. Not working, Im thinking only option is to flash stock rom and try again but im not sure what my firmware is, and whether it’s been updated or not. There’s 4.0.4 and 4.1.2 . I heard flashing the wrong rom can brick your phone. Please help!!

  8. Hello Wilma Dee,
And thank you for your step by step guide.

My i171 is At&t unrooted and unlocked.
    I clicked on the U.S.A. (AT&T) Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-I717 download file and get. . . .
    “File not found.”
So do you have any other links for that certain download, as I’ve searched and have not found it myself.

Again thank you very much, have a great life.
